Who I Am & What This Site Does

FMs4Ms (“the Site”) is a network of resources—run entirely by me, Kimberly Vanzi—offering articles and guidance for parents moving to or having children in Italy. Although it has “Moms” in the name, it is not a registered non-profit or charity; it is a personal, informational website. Whenever you see “I,” “me,” or “my” below, it refers to me as the owner and operator.

Information I Collect

Information You Provide Directly

  • Comments & Contact Form Submissions:
If you leave a comment or send a message via the contact form, I collect whatever personal details you voluntarily share (for example, your name and email address, plus any other details you include in your message).

Automatically Collected Information

  • Log Data:
Each time you visit the Site, my server automatically logs certain technical details (your IP address, browser type, pages visited, date/time, and referring URL).
  • Cookies & Similar Technologies:
I use standard cookies (via WordPress.com’s built-in settings) to:
    1. Remember your language preference and any consent choices you make.
    2. Track basic site statistics (through WordPress.com/Jetpack stats or, if enabled, Google Analytics).
    3. Enable basic functionality (for example, keeping you logged in if you choose to register or comment).
Most of these cookies are “session” cookies (deleted when you close your browser). A few may be persistent (lasting 30 days or more) to remember settings like “Do not ask me again” for the cookie banner.

How I Use & Share Your Information

Why I Use It

  • Site Operation & Security: To serve pages correctly, prevent abuse, and protect against spam.
  • Communication: To reply to your comments or contact-form inquiries.
  • Content Improvement: To see which articles you find most helpful, so I can keep writing the topics you’re reading.
  • Affiliate Marketing: If you click an Amazon.it (or other) affiliate link on my Site, I may earn a small commission. I do not collect any extra personal data in that process—Amazon handles all payment details.
  • Analytics & Metrics: To get anonymized, aggregated data about how many people read each post, which comes via WordPress.com/Jetpack or (optionally) Google Analytics.

Who I Share It With

  • WordPress.com/Jetpack: I use Jetpack for hosting and basic traffic analytics (WordPress.com’s privacy policy applies).
  • Email Provider: If you sign up for any mailing list, I may store your email on a platform like Mailchimp or ConvertKit (they are also bound by their own privacy policies).
  • Affiliate Partners (e.g., Amazon.it): If you click an affiliate link, Amazon may set cookies on your device to credit me for the sale. I do not see your purchase details, and Amazon’s privacy policy governs that data.
  • Legal Requirements: I will disclose data if required by a valid court order or governmental authority (for example, to respond to a subpoena).

I do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

Cookies & Tracking

WordPress.com/Jetpack Cookies

Because I’m on WordPress.com Basic, I rely on Jetpack Stats for simple analytics. Jetpack sets cookies like:

  • tk_ai (identifies the site owner)
  • _js_datr (for site security and analytics)

These help me see how many visits each post receives and filter out known bots. For full details, see WordPress.com’s Privacy Policy and their Jetpack Cookie Documentation.

Google Analytics (Optional)

If I enable Google Analytics on my Site, it will place cookies (e.g., _ga, _gid) to collect anonymized usage data (pages viewed, session duration, referral source). You can opt-out of Google Analytics cookies by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Managing/Blocking Cookies

You can disable or delete cookies in your browser’s settings (for example, Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all cookies and site data → Remove). Note that blocking all cookies may limit certain Site features (for example, you might not be able to remain logged in).

Your Rights Under GDPR (EU/Italy)

If you are an EU resident, you have these rights regarding any personal data I hold:

  1. Access: You can request a copy of all personal data I process about you.
  2. Rectification: You can ask me to correct any inaccurate or incomplete data.
  3. Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): You can ask me to delete your personal data, unless I have a legal obligation to keep it.
  4. Restriction of Processing: You can ask that I limit how I use your data (for example, if you contest its accuracy).
  5. Data Portability: Where processing is based on your consent or contract, you can ask for a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  6. Object: You can object to my processing of your data for direct marketing or analytics (unless I have a compelling legal reason to continue).
  7. Withdraw Consent: If I process any data based on your consent (for example, a newsletter), you can withdraw consent at any time.
  8. Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (“Garante per la protezione dei dati personali,” www.garanteprivacy.it) if you believe I have breached data protection laws.

Data Retention

  • Comments & Form Submissions: I keep these until you ask for them to be deleted.
  • Analytics Data:
    • Jetpack/WordPress.com retains statistics as long as the Site exists.
    • Google Analytics data (if used) follows Google’s default retention (often 14 months). You can adjust these retention settings in Google Analytics.
  • Backups: WordPress.com automatically backs up your entire Site; I do not store separate backups of your personal data.

Security Measures

I take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect your personal data:

  • HTTPS/TLS Encryption: All Site traffic is encrypted via HTTPS.
  • Strong Passwords: My WordPress.com account is protected by a strong password and, if available, two-factor authentication.
  • Limited Access: Only I (as the site owner) and any explicitly authorized administrators can access personal data collected via WordPress.com.

No system is 100% secure, but I continuously update security practices to reduce risks.

8. Children’s Privacy

My Site is not intended for children under 16. I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If I become aware that a child under 16 has provided me with personal data, I will delete that information promptly upon request.

Affiliate Disclosure & Cookies

Affiliate Links & Cookies
Some of the links on this website are affiliate links, including Amazon affiliate links. This means that if you click on one of these links and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate programs such as the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program use cookies to track visits and assign commissions. These cookies typically remain active for a limited period (e.g., 24 hours) and only track the products you purchase after clicking the link.

How Cookies Work on Affiliate Links
When you click an affiliate link, a cookie is placed in your browser to remember that you came from my site. This helps the retailer know who to credit for the referral. These cookies do not collect personal data or affect your shopping experience.

Your Consent
By continuing to use this website, you consent to the use of cookies related to affiliate links as described above. You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Third-Party Links

My Site may contain links to third-party websites (Amazon.it, Facebook, Instagram, etc.). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. I encourage you to read each third party’s privacy policy before providing personal data on their platform.

Cookie Consent Banner

Because I serve an EU/Italian audience, you will see a cookie consent banner on your first visit. It states:

Privacy & Cookies: This site uses cookies. By continuing to use this website, you agree to their use. To find out more, including how to control cookies, see here: Cookie Policy.

  • Accepting sets a “consent given” cookie so I don’t prompt you again.
  • To revoke consent, you can clear your browser cookies (e.g., Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all cookies and site data → Remove).

How to Update or Remove Your Data

If you want to update your personal information (e.g., email address) or request deletion of data I hold about you, please use the form below in the Contact section and clearly describe your request. I will address it within one month.

Changes to This Policy

I may revise this Privacy Policy at any time. When I do, I will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
