Free violin lessons for kids in Florence

violino-marianaFree Violin lessons for kids (elementary school age) at the Nidiaci garden in Oltrarno (via d’Ardiglione 30) will be starting this Thursday at 6 p.m.

The teacher is Mariana Pinto, whose extensive curriculum you can read here (in Italian) http://www.nidiaci.com/2016/04/03/mariana-rodrigues-pinto-la-nostra-maestra-di-violino/

The course is entirely free of charge, but for insurance purposes, an accompanying adult must become a member of our Association (annual fee 10 euros).

The Nidiaci garden – created in 1920 thanks to the generosity of the American Red Cross – is kept open by community volunteers and is right behind the historic Carmine church.

Violins for the course have been donated by members of the Association.

Free Violin Lessons for Children

On Tuesday, October 14, at 5 in the afternoon, Colorado-born violist Wendy Yates will start holding free violin lessons for kids in the Oltrarno.

If the weather is ok, the lessons will be held at the Bartlett-Nidiaci garden in Via d’Ardiglione, nestling behind the Carmine church; in case of rain, at the Ludoteca in Via Maffia 25 (ring the bell to have the gate opened).

The lessons will be held every Tuesday.

These lessons are some of the many initiatives the parents of the Oltrarno district are organizing around the garden, donated in 1920 together with its neighboring buildings to the people of the district by Edward Otis Bartlett, commissioner of the American Red Cross.

The garden is kept open for children on a volunteer base by our Association – membership cards for 2015 are already available and cost 10 Euros!

We are also looking for volunteer English teachers for the children, Kirsten who did a great job this spring has some difficulty coming now.

It’s a good way of getting into the real life of this city!

Gucci opens its doors for kid-friendly workshops | The Florence Newspaper

Gucci Museum opens its doors with ‘CreaKids,’ an initiative aimed at engaging children and families with a series of interactive events until early June. The cultural center dedicated to the Gucci archive and contemporary art in Piazza della Signoria opened on February 23, inviting a new generation of art enthusiasts.

Staged on May 25 and 26, ‘The City Laboratory’ leads children through the streets, churches and palaces of Florence to discover the city’s historical ‘brands’ before encouraging kids to create a brand of their own. ‘Florario’ on June 8 and 9 takes the kids down the garden path to explore the symbolism of plants and flowers and then lets them loose to design their own scarf using the museum’s exhibits as inspiration.
